The short answer is that every family’s needs are different, so I offer support in different ways each time I work with a new family.
As your doula, I will be a nurturing presence practically, physically, and emotionally. This can look like taking time to listen, offering parents a rest by watching the baby or playing with older children, household organization and light housework, running errands, cooking a meal or preparing a snack, helping you identify support that others in your community can offer, educating you about tried and true evidence-based skills, and assisting with anything else baby-related.
As your lactation/infant feeding counselor, I can provide you with an in-depth lactation assessment, offer knowledge about optimal breastfeeding positions and latch, answer questions about milk supply, pumping, bottle-feeding, supplementation, milk storage, and when to see an IBCLC for a more clinical approach to complex feeding situations.

The duration of support varies greatly from family to family. We could spend two or three visits together or the full three months of the fourth trimester. Every situation is entirely unique. Some questions to ask yourself are: What kind of support is available from your family and friends? What was your birth experience like? How many babies are joining your family? Do you have older children? Do you/your partner feel supported? How many hours do you have the financial capability for? What is your breastfeeding journey like? Are you at risk for postpartum depression or other perinatal mental health challenges?

Ideally I will visit you within the first 48 hours after your baby is born. I like to be at your home when you arrive back from the hospital, if you have a hospital birth.

While a postpartum doula is not a night nanny, I do offer nighttime support to my clients! I will work as late as 1am, and I find that is usually late enough to take care of any nighttime fussiness.

I am a Certified Lactation Counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice (ALPP), and trained with the Healthy Children Project’s Center for Breastfeeding. I am pursuing a higher clinical certification as an IBCLC as well. My postpartum doula training was done through DONA International and I am in their certification process as well.
